Sleeping With Lions: My Wild Days (and Nights) at Plains Camp in Kruger

There are moments in travel that don’t just take your breath away. They rewrite who you are.

That’s what Plains Camp did to me.

From Shelter Island to the South African Bush

For those who don’t know me yet—hi, I’m Noe Rose. I’m a solo traveler, storyteller, and the founder of The Solo Ways, where I help aspiring solo travelers tap into their personal power through adventure.

My travels aren’t about checking destinations off a list. They’re about transformation—through wild places, quiet awakenings, and experiences that move your soul.

In my last vlog, I shared my first full day at Plains Camp, one of Seolo Africa’s hidden safari gems tucked inside a private concession of Kruger National Park. I experienced my first walking safari, and I’ll never forget how electric the air felt with every step. No fences. No roaring engines. Just me, the bush, and the ancient rhythm of life walking beside me.

The Plains Camp Experience: Day 2

Plains Camp is where glamping meets the wilderness. But not in an over-the-top, Instagrammable way.

This place is raw luxury—the kind that whispers instead of screams.

Canvas tents with sweeping views.A crackling firepit where strangers become family. And a waterhole where zebras, buffalo, and elephants gather—no big deal.

On Day 2, I settled deeper into the rhythm of the bush.Waking with the sun. Tracking wildlife on foot.Savoring every detail—the crunch of dry grass underfoot, the distant call of a fish eagle, the smell of fresh coffee in the crisp morning air.

On Day 3, I got a preview of something unforgettable…

The Sleepout: Where the Wild Sleeps Too

I got a rare sneak peek at The Sleepout—an elevated wooden platform in the heart of the wilderness where, on special nights, guests sleep under the stars.

No roof. No walls.Just the pulse of the bush and a few mosquito nets between you and the stars.

I didn’t spend the night—yet. That’s coming on Day 4. But standing there, high above the ground, staring into the endless sky… I felt small, terrified, and deeply, utterly alive.

This is the kind of experience you can’t buy in bulk. It’s something sacred. And soon, I’ll get to sleep there.

A Dream I Wrote in My Journal

I have to pinch myself sometimes.

Because for a girl from Tahiti living on Shelter Island, this was the kind of adventure I used to scribble about in my journal.A dream I didn’t always think was possible.

But here I am. Living it.And if I can do it—so can you.
